GOLF
Ruby View Golf Course, Elko’s public course has previously been rated in the top 40 of 2000 public golf courses as surveyed by Golf Digest Maga- zine. This 18-hole, par 71, 6,945-yard course offers truly gorgeous views of the Ruby Mountains, meandering creeks, serene ponds, enormous shade trees, deep, strategic bunkers and lush greens. It has four sets of tees, a driving range, two practice greens and a chipping and putting green, resi- dent golf pro, nicely-stocked pro shop and bar & grill. Chimney Rock Golf Course (Wells) – This flat and easy-to- walk 9-hole municipal course covers 3,065 yards and is a par 35 with several water hazards and sand bunkers. The greens are impeccably maintained and rank among some of the best in the area. Toana Vista (West Wendover). This 18-hole, public par 72, 7,091 yard desert links course is usually uncrowded during the week and offers great mountain views. FISHING, BOATING, SWIMMING AND CAMPING
South Fork Reservoir is just a short drive from Spring Creek on 228. The 3-mile long by 1.5-mile wide reservoir has an average depth of 30 feet, making it perfect for boating, jet skiing and fishing Rainbow and brown trout, smallmouth

Spring Creek Golf Course – This lovely 18-hole, par-71, 6,302 yard course offers staggering views of peaks of the Rubies from the entire course. The uncrowded, player-friendly course meanders over hilly terrain with a number of deep sand bunkers, tricky doglegs and nicely-maintained greens and fairways. Wild Horse Reservoir is
located 67 miles north of
Elko on State Route 225,
at an elevation of 6,205’.
When full, the lake has
a surface area of 2,830
acres and the surround-
ing snow-capped moun-
tains rise to 8,000 feet.
The reservoir is home to
over a dozen species of
fish and is stocked annually with rainbow and brown trout. It commonly has the state’s lowest winter temperatures, making it ideal for ice fishing. Open year-round, but snow can limit access in winter months. (775-758-6493 or www.parks.nv.gov/wh.htm)
Angel Lake is one of the most popular recreation sites in our area. A 12-mile scenic highway, State Route 231, is sometimes called “highway to heaven” as it climbs several thousand feet from Interstate 80’s exit 351 in Wells to the eastern shore of the lake. This stunning, 13-acre lake has depths of up to 29 feet and is surrounded by high granite cliffs, topped by Greys Peak (10,674 feet) to the west.
